New Health Tech Prog

Heartland Technical Education Center is proud to announce a major evolution of its Health Technology programβ€”an initiative designed to help address the growing shortages in the nursing and allied health fields. With an aging workforce, fewer new professionals entering the field, and limited training opportunities, the need for innovative talent pipelines has never been greater. Heartland Tech is responding with a comprehensive, multi-track approach that prepares high school students for meaningful careers in healthcare.

Beginning in fall 2026, incoming juniors will launch their healthcare journey by learning core skills and completing the requirements to become a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA). This foundational certification provides students with immediate employability and a springboard into more advanced healthcare pathways.

Upon entering their senior year, students will advance into one of three specialized tracks tailored to their career goals:

Track 1 β€” CNA Work Release Pathway

Students who earn their CNA may participate in approved work release opportunities, gaining real-world experience while continuing to meet all academic requirements for high school graduation.

Track 2 β€” Advanced Clinical Skills Pathway

Students interested in broadening their skills and pursuing additional healthcare certifications can continue their training to become a:

  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician

  • Certified EKG Technician

  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant

This track offers students a competitive edge and preparation for a range of healthcare careers.

Track 3 β€” Practical Nursing Preparation Pathway

Students who meet academic expectationsβ€”earning a 76% or higher in all coursesβ€”may enter the pathway to practical nursing curriculum. This advanced track provides foundational nursing education designed to support advanced placement into a Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program at an Ohio Technical Center or college. This pathway positions students to move efficiently and confidently into the nursing profession.

β€œHeartland Tech is committed to empowering the next generation of healthcare professionals,” said Rod Cheyney, Superintendent. β€œBy expanding our program, we are giving students more opportunities to build meaningful careers while helping meet the critical workforce needs of our region.”
