Early Childhood Education

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Students plan activities that enhance a child’s intellectual, social, emotional and physical development. Students learn to create, research and provide developmentally appropriate learning materials and activities that make learning fun, while operating a state certified preschool.
Curriculum Focus:
• Child development
• Teacher assistant skills
• Evaluation and observation techniques
• Health/safety guidelines
• First aid/CPR training
• Care of facilities and equipment
• Preschool operations for three, four and five-year-olds
• Related employability skills
Students in this program are required to have a FBI/BCI background check and may not have any felony charges before or during their time in the ECE program.
Suggested credits earned prior to junior year for this program are:

Earn Ohio Department of Education (ODE) credential points toward graduation during your junior and senior years.

• Communicable Disease (1 point)
• Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention (1 point)
• Para Pro (6 points)
• Potential to earn Child Development Associate (CDA) when combined with an internship in the field (12 points)
Students may qualify for articulation college credit and the Tuition Freedom Scholarship at North Central State College.
